Casuarina cunninghamiana
Casuarina cunninghamiana
Family: Casuarinaceae
Cultivation
Casuarina cunninghamiana succeeds in warm temperate to tropical areas at elevations from sea level to 2,200 metres. Plants grow best in areas where the mean annual temperature is in the range 13 - 29°c and the mean annual precipitation in the range of 500 - 1,500mm. Heavy frosts can occur up to 50 times in a year in some parts of its range and mature plants can tolerate short periods with temperatures down to about -10°c, but young growth is badly damaged at -1°c.

Casuarina equisetifolia
Casuarina equisetifolia
Family: Casuarinaceae
Cultivation
Casuarina equisetifolia is adaptable to a wide range of conditions, being found from the semi-arid to subhumid tropics and subtropics, usually near sea level but succeeding under cultivation at heights up to 1,400 metres. It grows best in areas where the mean annual temperature is in the range 10 - 35°c and prefers a mean annual rainfall in the range 700 - 2,000mm, though it tolerates 200 - 3,500mm. In most areas where it grows there is a distinct dry period of 4 - 6 months, although this seasonality decreases towards the equator in Southeast Asia and in the southern parts of its range in Australia.
