Cultivation
Cultivation of Arracacha usually takes place at higher elevation of 1,800 - 3,500 metres in the Tropics, though it can also be grown at lower elevations down to 600 metres. It can be grown as a half-hardy perennial in the warmer regions of the Temperate zone, the roots being harvested in the autumn, stored overwinter in a cool frost-free place and then planted out in the spring. Attempts in the 19th century to cultivate it as a commercial crop in Europe, however, were unsuccessful.
