Botanical species in the genus Allocasuarina recorded in the PlantPeers database.

Allocasuarina distyla
Allocasuarina distyla
Family: Casuarinaceae
Cultivation
Allocasuarina distyla is native to the warm temperate regions of eastern Australia and is said to be able to tolerate moderate frosts. It is unlikely to do well when grown in areas with cool summers because the new growth is unlikely to ripen fully, making it more susceptible to winter cold. In cultivation, species in this genus usually grow best in a well-drained moisture-retentive soil in full sun.

Allocasuarina fraseriana
Family: Casuarinaceae
Cultivation
In cultivation, species in this genus usually grow best in a well-drained moisture-retentive soil in full sun. In the wild they are often found in soils markedly deficient in nutrients.

Allocasuarina littoralis
Allocasuarina littoralis
Family: Casuarinaceae
Cultivation
Allocasuarina littoralis has a very wide climatic tolerance, being found from the south of Tasmania to the tip of northern Queensland, from the temperate zone right through to the moist, lowland tropics. It succeeds in areas where the mean annual temperature is in the range 6 - 27°c, with the mean for the hottest month 19 - 30°c and the coolest month -1 - 16°c. It can tolerate temperatures down to about -5°c.

Allocasuarina luehmannii
Allocasuarina luehmannii
Family: Casuarinaceae
Cultivation
Allocasuarina luehmannii is found from the tropics of northeast Queensland to the warm temperate climate of Victoria. It is found mainly in the warm sub-humid climatic zone and with only a limited extension into the warm semi-arid zone in the south of its range. The mean maximum temperature of the hottest month is 29 - 35°c and that of the coldest month 2 - 4°c.

Allocasuarina verticillata
Allocasuarina verticillata
Family: Casuarinaceae
Cultivation
Allocasuarina verticillata tolerates temperatures down to at least -7°c in Australian gardens although this cannot be translated directly to British gardens due to our cooler summers and longer, colder and wetter winters. It should succeed outdoors in the mildest maritime areas of this country. Requires a well-drained moisture-retentive soil in full sun.
