Cultivation Details
A tree of moderate elevations in the tropics where it can be found from 500 - 1,700 metres. Prefers a sunny position[1]. Established plants are drought tolerant[1].
Propagation
Seed - of short viability, it should be sown in a sunny position in a nursery seedbed as soon as it is ripe[1]. The germination rate, even of fresh seed, is usually quite low, with the seed sprouting in 28 - 45 days[1]. Pot up the seedlings into individual containers when they are large enough to handle. They can be quite difficult to grow away successfully, possibly due to the need for a mycorrhizal relationship[1]. Adding some soil from around a healthy tree to the potting compost might resolve the problem[1].
