Growth—

A plant of mainly lowland areas in the tropics, though it is occasionally found as high as 1,200 metres. Succeeds in full sun or light shade[1]. Prefers a fertile soil[1]. Established plants are drought tolerant[1].

Propagation

Seed - of short viability, it should be sown in partial shade in a nursery seedbed as soon as it is ripe[2]. The germination rate, even of fresh seed, is usually quite low, with the seed sprouting in 40 - 60 days[2]. Pot up the seedlings into individual containers when they are large enough to handle. They can be quite difficult to grow away successfully, possibly due to the need for a mycorrhizal relationship[1].
