Veronicastrum stenostachyum is native to the warm temperate and subtropical regions of southern China, growing mainly in hardiness zones 8 - 9. Prefers a position in light woodland shade[1]. Prefers a humus-rich, moist soil[1]. Species in this genus are generally easily grown in a fairly sunny position in a moderately fertile moisture retentive well drained soil[2].
Propagation
Seed - sow autumn or spring in a cold frame[2]. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Cuttings of half-ripe wood taken in early summer before flowering or from non-flowering side-shoots[1]. The stems of this species arch, the apex touching the ground and rooting to form a new plant[3].
