Cultivation Details
Grows best in a sunny position[1, 2]. Succeeds in most well-drained soils, from clays to sands[1]. Tolerates acidic soils[1]. Young plants have a moderate rate of growth[2]. Plants can flower 2 or 3 times a year.
Propagation
Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. The seed is very small and should only be covered with a very thin layer of soil - cover the soil with a cheese cloth to avoid washing the seeds away when watering, removing the cloth as soon as germination is evident. A low germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within a few weeks[2]. When the seedlings are 2 - 4cm tall, pot them up into individual containers and they should be ready to plant out 6 - 7 months later[2]. The seed has a short period of viability in storage[2].
