Growth—
A plant of the lowland tropics and subtropics, where it is found at elevations below 150 metres[1]. It is tolerant of a long dry season and of heavy rain[1]. Prefers a sandy soil[1]. Succeeds in poor rocky soils[PFAF]. This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria, these bacteria form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilized by the growing plant but some can also be used by other plants growing nearby[2].
