Safety & Hazards

The sawdust from wood of plants in this genus can be irritating to mill workers[1].

Cultivation Details

HabitEvergreen Tree
GrowthMedium

Newly planted young trees grow away moderately well and can reach a height of 1.5 metres within 2 years[2]. This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria; these bacteria form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilized by the growing plant but some can also be used by other plants growing nearby[3].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in individual containers in a semi-shaded position. A germination rate in excess of 50% can be expected with the seeds sprouting within 7 - 14 days. Plants are ready to be planted into their permanent positions 5 - 6 months later[2].
