Swartzia dipetala
Safety & Hazards
The sawdust from wood of plants in this genus can be irritating to mill workers[1].
Cultivation Details
Prefers a position in full sun or light shade[2]. Tolerant of occasionally inundated soils[2]. A fast-growing tree[2]. This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria; these bacteria form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilized by the growing plant but some can also be used by other plants growing nearby[].
Propagation
Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a semi-shaded position in a nursery seedbed[2]. A germination rate of around 50% can be expected, with the seeds sprouting within 60 - 90 days[2]. Seedlings grow away rapidly[2]. Cite as: Tropical Plants Database, Ken Fern. tropical.theferns.info. 2026-02-20. <tropical.theferns.info/viewtropical.php?id=Swartzia+dipetala>
