Growth—

Suaeda occidentalis is a plant of arid and semi-arid regions, growing in areas where summers can be hot and the winters very cold. Species in this genus usually require a sunny position and are found in the wild growing in alkaline and saline soils. This species is easily confused with Suaeda calceoliformis, which occurs throughout its range. There are virtually no differences in floral characters[1].
