Stellera chamaejasme
Stellera chamaejasme
Safety & Hazards
The root is poisonous[1].
Cultivation Details
Requires a gritty very well-drained moisture-retentive soil in full sun[2, 3]. Thrives in a limey soil so long as it contains plenty of organic matter[4]. Plants are hardy to at least -20°c[2]. A very long-lived plant but is hard to propagate, other than from seed[2]. Grows well in the rock garden[4].
Propagation
Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a cold frame. Sow stored seed as early in the year as possible. Germination can be slow. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots when they are large enough to handle and grow them on for at least their first winter in the cold frame. Plant out in late spring or early summer.
