Cultivation Details
Succeeds in sunny positions and in dappled shade[1]. Plants are quite slow growing, rarely reaching a height of 2 metres after 2 years from seed[1]. A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required[1].
Propagation
Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. There is some kind of seed dormancy that needs to be broken[1]. A low germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 30 - 40 days[1]. The seedlings grow away slowly, but should be ready to plant out 10 months or more later[1]. The seed has a viability of less than 4 months in storage[1]. Stunning photographs of each species, brief details on the plant, its uses and how to grow it from seed. A superb work, with the minor irritation that the translation from Portuguese is not of the best.
