Salvia hians is a moderately cold-hardy plant, able to tolerate temperatures down to around -18°c when fully dormant[1]. Succeeding in full sun to semi-shade, the plant prefers a well-drained, friable, loamy soil[1].

Propagation

Seed - sow early to mid spring in a greenhouse[2]. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots when they are large enough to handle and plant them out in the summer. Cuttings of half-ripe wood succeed at almost any time in the growing season[2]. Division of small rooted shoots growing at the base of the plant[1].
