Cultivation Details

HabitDeciduous Tree
GrowthSlow

Grows best in a sunny position[1]. Succeeds in poor and dry soils[1]. Requires a well-drained soil[1]. Established plants are drought tolerant[1]. The plant is slow-growing, barely reaching a height of 1.5 metres within 2 years from seed[1].

Propagation

Seed - the plants deeply resent root disturbance so the seed is best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in individual containers. A low germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 20 - 40 days[1]. The seedlings develop quite slowly, but they should be ready to plant out 10 - 11 months later[1]. The seed has a very short viability in storage[1]. Stunning photographs of each species, brief details on the plant, its uses and how to grow it from seed. A superb work, with the minor irritation that the translation from Portuguese is not of the best.
