Growth—
A plant of the hot, wet tropical lowlands[1]. It can tolerate short-lived mild frosts[2]. Succeeds in ful sun and in partial shade[2]. Grows in acid soils[1]. A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required[3].
