The tree is a much favoured source of wood for making charcoal and so it is very commonly harvested from the wild. It is also used locally as a timber and for medicinal purposes. This species is commonly targeted for charcoal burning because it is considered to be one of the best trees for this purpose. Trees are also logged for their timber and there has been a loss of habitat across the species' range because of expanding agricultural activities. Populations have been greatly decreased and the plant is classified as 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
