Botanical Description
Cineraria anampoza is an annual to perennial plant growing 20 - 40cm tall with numerous stems that lie along the ground, rooting near the base. The plant becomes more or less woody near the base[ 455 Title Flore de Madagascar et des Comores Publication Author Humbert H. Website http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/ Publisher Museum National D'Histoire Naturelle; Paris Year 1946 - 1984 ISBN Description Written in French, an excellent flora of the area though it has not been completed. Available for download from the Internet. ]. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine. Cineraria anampoza has a restricted range in Madagascar, where it only occurs in an estimated nine locations. Four subpopulations grow within a protected area and are experiencing a continuing decline in extent and quality, because of habitat degradation and destruction due to agriculture, wildfire and urban development. We project that the ongoing loss of its habitat will induce a continuous decline in the number of subpopulations and mature individuals in the next ten years. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2017)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
