Botanical Description

Apios americana is a herbaceous perennial, climbing plant, sending out thin, branching stems up to 6 metres long from underground tubers. The stems scramble over the ground, twining into the surrounding vegetation for support. The groundnut is commonly harvested from the wild for local use as a food.
