Botanical Description

Palaquium herveyi is a tree growing up to 45 metres tall. The tree is harvested from the wild on a commercial basis for its wood, which is traded as 'Nyatoh'[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ]. Palaquium herveyi has been collected in protected areas and the extent of occurrence (EOO) is large. The habitat is, however, under threat - 20% of the tree cover within the EOO has been lost from 2000 to 2016 and based on this there is a suspected population decline. The tree cover loss and the population decline would most likely be 25-30% if calculated over three generation lengths (60-150 years) rather than 16 years. The plant is classified as 'Near Threatened' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2018)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
