Botanical Description

Fraxinus nigra is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 25 metres tall. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and source of materials. It is grown as an ornamental Fraxinus nigra is suffering the devastating impact of a recently introduced invasive pest, the Emerald Ash Borer that has rapidly spread across much of its native range and shows no sign of stopping. A population decline of at least 80% over the next 100 years (and likely much faster than that) is assumed for this species.
