Botanical Description
Calamus pachystemonus is a spiny, evergreen, climbing palm producing a cluster of unbranched stems no thicker than a pencil but often more than 40 metres long. The plant climbs into the surrounding vegetation, supporting itself by means of recurved prickles. The stems are harvested from the wild in very large quantities for use in making baskets and various other items.
