Alafia nigrescens is a large climbing shrub scrambling over the ground or climbing into the surrounding vegetation. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a tying material. Alafia nigrescens is a rare plant, collected from only a few locations. However, it is not listed in the IUCN Red list.
