Botanical Description

Artemisia pancicii is a herbaceous, perennial plant growing from a long woody rootstock. The plant produces a number of short, infertile stems 5 - 10cm long topped with a rosette of leaves, plus longer, flowering stems that can be 30 - 90cm tall. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine. It is cultivated as a medicinal plant in Serbia[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ]. This species has a restricted area of occupancy of less than 2,000 km². The population trend is declining. It is listed as Critically Endangered in the Serbian national red list and therefore it can be assumed that the species will need to be placed into a threatened category. However, there is no information on the size or trend of the populations, number of locations or potential threats available in Serbia and so the species has to be assessed as Data Deficient in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
