Botanical Description
Korthalsia jala is a spiny, evergreen, climbing palm producing a cluster of robust stems that climb into the surrounding trees. The stems can reach lengths of 60 metres with a diameter of 60mm and internodes around 20cm long - they are unbranched in their lower parts, then orm a number of branches in the canopy where they can form considerable entanglements. The stem is very slender towards the base, but new growth gradually thickens, reaching its greatest diameter at the upper end at the time of flowering[ 1017 Title Annals of the Royal Botanic Garden, Calcutta.
