Botanical Description
Cordia schatziana is a tree, usually growing up to 6 metres tall but sometimes reaching 20 metres. The trunk can be up to 50cm in diameter[ 1902 Title Two new species of Cordia L. (Boraginaceae) from Madagascar Publication Adansonia series 3, 23(2), 289-295, 2001 Author Miller J.S. Publisher Year 2001 ISBN Description ]. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. Cordia schatziana has a very restricted range in Madagascar, where it grows in anthropic vegetation and currently is only known to occur in two distinct areas. Continuing decline is projected because of habitat destruction due to land conversion, logging and fire. The distribution of this species is also severely fragmented. The plant is classified as 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
