Flueggea tinctoria is widespread in the Iberian Peninsula, it has a large extent of occurrence, and is said to dominate some of the habitat where it is found. The main threat to the species is the drying of temporal rivers and the abstraction of water. The species is also affected by the alteration of hydrological regime as a result of the installation of dams, the unregulated cleaning of the streams, the low quality of the water, pollution, presence of cattle and urbanisation.
