Botanical Description

Syzygium wrightii is an evergreen shrub or a tree The tree was formerly much used as the source of a structural timber in the Seychelles, but has been over-exploited and it is unsure if the tree is being harvested at the present time. Urbanization and spread of introduced species (such as Cinnamomum verum or Alstonia macrophylla) in its habitat are the main threats to this species. It is obvious that a decline of habitat quality is taking place due to the spreading of invasive alien plant species and seed predating rats. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[ 338 Title IUCN Red List of Threatened Species Publication Author Website http://www.iucnredlist.org/ Publisher Year 0 ISBN Description A list of plants under threat and facing possible extinction, usually with brief details of the threats and information on habitat. ].
