Botanical Description

Aphanocalyx microphyllus is a tree with a hemispherical or irregular crown; it can grow from 7 - 45 metres tall. The bole is often contorted, but sometimes cylindrical, it can be free of branches for up to 15 metres and 10 - 100cm in diameter; the bases of large trees are often with rather thin, sometimes branching, buttresses or plank roots (or even stilt roots?), these can be up to 2 (-6) metres high and 3 (-8) metres wide[ 896 Title Monopetalanthus exit.
