Based on data from 10 collection localities, the climate preferences of Prumnopitys ladei include a mean annual temperature of 21°c, with an average minimum in the coldest month of 12°c, and a mean annual precipitation of 1,620mm. It can accept some frost when dormant, tolerating short-lived temperatures falling to between -1°c and +4.4°c[1]. Because of its small leaves, tolerance of low light and slow growth, this species makes an excellent indoor plant and deserves greater recognition[3]. When cultivated in a garden situation this species exhibits a very symmetrical form with branches down to ground level[3]. A slow-growing plant[2], A dioecious species, both male and female forms must be grown if fruit and seed are required.
