Cultivation Details
HabitEvergreen Tree
GrowthMedium
Succeeds in full sun to fairly dense shade[1]. Grows best in the more fertile, moist soils of alluvial valleys etc[1]. Tolerant of poorly drained soils[1]. Young plants have a moderate rate of growth[1]. The seeds have glandular hairs which cause them to stick to animal fur and thus be dispersed, often far from the parent tree[1].
Propagation
Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A moderate germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within a few weeks[1]. Stunning photographs of each species, brief details on the plant, its uses and how to grow it from seed. A superb work, with the minor irritation that the translation from Portuguese is not of the best.
