Growth—
Plants are fairly cold tolerant, surviving temperatures down to about -3°c. Succeeds in full sun and in partial shade. Prefers a moist, but well-drained, fertile soil. Plants can commence fruiting within 2 - 3 years from seed, when the plant is still only 1 metre tall.
Propagation
Seed - it has a short viability and so is best sown as soon as it is ripe. Sow in a semi-shaded position in a nursery seedbed. Germination rates are quite low, with the seed sprouting within 80 - 100 days[1]. The seedlings grow away quite slowly[1]. Stunning photographs of each species, brief details on the plant, its uses and how to grow it from seed. A superb work, with the minor irritation that the translation from Portuguese is not of the best.
