Growth—
Prefers a rich, moist soil and a moderately to very sunny position[1]. A very fast-growing plant, it has been introduced into many areas as an ornamental. It often escapes from cultivation, either by seed or by rooting from pieces of plant that have been thrown away. It can invade local ecosystems, climbing into and smothering the vegetation[2]. Since it requires full sunlight, minimizing disturbance will inhibit growth. Hand control is difficult due to resprouting and rooting of stem fragments[2].
Propagation
Seed - Cuttings root easily[2]. Cite as: Tropical Plants Database, Ken Fern. tropical.theferns.info. 2026-02-20. <tropical.theferns.info/viewtropical.php?id=Merremia+peltata>
