Growth—

Kunzea pomifera is moderately cold-hardy, tolerating occasional winter temperatures as low as about -7°c in its native habitat[1], though it rerquires hot summers for the wood to ripen fully and does not do well in areas where the winter is wet[PFAF]. Wild populations grow in areas with a natural rainfall of 500 - 800mm[2]. Requires a sunny, very well-drained position[1]. It grows best in well-drained soils with a moderate to strong alkaline pH between 6.0 - 8.0[2]. Under cultivation for their fruit, the plants can be grown successful on trellises[2]. Plants produce prolific crops annually in their native habitat[3].
