Helichrysum orientale
Helichrysum orientale
Safety & Hazards
None known
Cultivation Details
Requires a light well-drained soil in a sunny sheltered position[1, 2]. Intolerant of excessive moisture[1]. Established plants are drought resistant[3]. Plants are hardy to about -15°c, but they strongly dislike winter wet and are more reliable when grown in a cold greenhouse[2]. Members of this genus are rarely if ever troubled by browsing deer[4].
Propagation
Seed - sow late winter/early spring in a greenhouse. The seed usually germinates in 2 - 3 weeks at 20°c. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Cuttings of half-ripe wood, 5cm with a heel, early summer/July in a frame. Roots in 4 weeks. Good percentage[5]. Cite as: Temperate Plants Database, Ken Fern. temperate.theferns.info. 2026-02-21. <temperate.theferns.info/plant/Helichrysum+orientale>
