Cultivation Details

HabitSemi-deciduous Tree
GrowthSlow

Prefers a position in full sun or light shade[1]. Established plants are drought tolerant[1]. Young seedlings are slow to establish and grow away when planted out[1]. Although many species within the family Fabaceae have a symbiotic relationship with soil bacteria, this species is said to be devoid of such a relationship and therefore does not fix atmospheric nitrogen.

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe. Sow in a nursery seedbed or in individual containers, covering them with 5mm of soil[1]. Germination rates are usually low, with the seed sprouting within 4 - 5 weeks[1]. Pot the seedlings up into individual containers when they are about 5 - 6cm tall[1]. Stunning photographs of each species, brief details on the plant, its uses and how to grow it from seed. A superb work, with the minor irritation that the translation from Portuguese is not of the best.
