Eupomatia bennettii is native to the warm temperate to subtropical climate of eastern Australia. The plant grows well in shady areas[1]. A slow-growing plant[1]. The flowers are beautifully perfumed[1]. This species belongs to an ancient and primitive family with only two other members: the more commonly encountered Eupomatia laurina R.Br., and the rarer Eupomatia barbata Jessup. The flowers need to be pollinated by small beetles if they are to set fruit[1].
