Cultivation Details
Grows best in a sunny position in a well-drained soil[1]. Young plants grow away very slowly, reaching a height of up to 1.5 metres when two years old.
Propagation
Seed - it loses viability quickly and should be sown within a month of harvesting[1]. The seed germinates better if it is mechanically scarified prior to sowing. Sow in a nursery bed or individual containers, covering with 1cm of soil[1]. Germination rates are usually low, occurring within 60 - 120 days[1]. Transplant seedlings into individual containers when 4 - 6cm tall, then plant out into their permanent positions 8 - 9 months later[1].
