Growth—

This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria; these bacteria form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilized by the growing plant but some can also be used by other plants growing nearby[1].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a lightly shaded position in a nursery seedbed[2]. Germination rates are usually high, with the seed sprouting within 14 - 21 days[2]. Prick out the seedlings into individual containers when they are 4 - 5cm tall and they should be ready to plant out 5 - 6 months later[2].
