Cultivation Details

HabitTree
GrowthFast

Grows best in a sunny position[1]. Most Croton species are relatively indifferent to their habitat and can grow on a wide range of soils in both disturbed and undisturbed vegetation[2]. A fast-growing tree, easily reaching a height of 4 metres within two years from seed[1].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A low germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 25 - 45 days[1]. When the seedlings are 4 - 5cm tall, pot them up into individual containers and they should be ready to plant out 4 - 5 months later[1]. The seed has a viability of less than 4 months[1].
