Species in this genus generally grow best in full sun or partial shade in a moist but well-drained soil[1]. Clerodendrum macrostegium has been found naturalized in Hawaii (on the island of Kaua'i), where it is spreading by means of suckers in areas that have been disturbed by human activity. It is not known as yet how invasive the plant might be in more natural environments[2].
