Growth—
Clematis alpina is a very cold-hardy plant, being able to tolerate temperatures down to around -35°c when fully dormant[1] Plants are able to withstand quite exposed positions in the garden, especially if growing amongst shrubs[1]. The plant flowers on lateral buds produced on the previous season's growth. If any pruning.is required, it should only be carried out immediately after the plant has finished flowering[1].
