Prefers a sunny position[1]. Succeeds in wet and swampy soils[1]. Young trees grow very quickly, easily reaching 4 metres or more tall in their second year[1].
Propagation
Seed - it can be stored for more than 6 months, even in warm, humid rooms[1]. Sow the seed in a lightly shaded position in a nursery seedbed or in individual containers. A germination rate in excess of 80% can be expected, with the seeds sprouting within 20 - 40 days. Transplant the nursery bed sown plants into individual containers when they are 4 - 6 months tall[1]. Seedlings grow quickly and will be ready for planting out less than 4 months later[1]. Stunning photographs of each species, brief details on the plant, its uses and how to grow it from seed. A superb work, with the minor irritation that the translation from Portuguese is not of the best.
