Cultivation Details
Callicarpa loboapiculata is native in the warm temperate to tropical regions of China, where it grows in hardiness zones 9 -11. It might succeed outdoors in the mildest regions of the temperate zone. Species in this genus generally require a sunny position or light dappled shade[1, 2]. Prefers a highly fertile well-drained loamy soil[1, 2]. Requires cross-pollination for good fruit production[3]. Plants in this genus are notably resistant to honey fungus[2].
Propagation
Seed - sow late winter in a greenhouse[4]. Only just cover the seed[5]. Germination usually takes place within 1 - 3 months at 18°c[5]. When large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for at least their first winter, planting them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Cuttings of half-ripe wood 10cm long, mid summer in a frame. High percentage[4]. Cuttings of mature wood of the current season's growth with a heel[4] taken in early spring[2].
