Cultivation Details
A plant of the humid tropics, where it is found at elevations up to 700 metres. It grows best in areas where annual daytime temperatures are within the range 20 - 33°c, but can tolerate 15 - 38°c[1]. It prefers a mean annual rainfall in the range 2,000 - 3,000mm, but tolerates 1,100 - 4,000mm[1]. Young trees grow better in the dappled shade of the forest floor, but older trees require more light[1]. Succeeds in most soils of at least moderate fertility[1]. Prefers a pH in the range 5 - 6, tolerating 4.5 - 6.5[1]. Yields of timber may be between 15 - 40 m3/ha/year[1]
