GrowthSlow
Succeeds in moderate to fairly dense shade[1]. Prefers a well-drained, sandy soil[1]. Tolerant of dry to fairly wet soils[1]. The plant has a slow rate of growth, even when young[1].
Propagation
Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. The seed is very small and should be surface-sown on the seedbed then gently watered into the soil, being careful not to wash it away. A germination rate of less than 50% can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 40 - 60 days[1]. Stunning photographs of each species, brief details on the plant, its uses and how to grow it from seed. A superb work, with the minor irritation that the translation from Portuguese is not of the best.
