Growth—

Succeeds in full sun to moderate shade[1]. Prefers a well-drained, clayey soil[1]. Established plants are drought tolerant[1]. Plants resprout freely from the base after being burnt or cut down[1].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a sunny position in a nursery seedbed. The seed is very small and should be surface-sown on the seedbed then gently watered into the soil, being careful not to wash it away. A germination rate of less than 50% can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 28 - 42 days[1]. Stunning photographs of each species, brief details on the plant, its uses and how to grow it from seed. A superb work, with the minor irritation that the translation from Portuguese is not of the best.
