Cultivation Details
A tree of moderate elevations in the moist tropics, it can also be grown at lower elevations in the subtropics[1]. Prefers a sunny, sheltered position and a rich, moist but well drained soil[2]. The plant also succeeds in light shade[1]. A fairly fast-growing tree, so long as it is given plenty of moisture[1]. The flowers are scented, whilst the evergreen leaves also have a pleasant aroma[1].
Propagation
Seed - best sown fresh, when it usually germinates well without any pre-treatment[2]. All the fruit pulp needs to be removed from the seed, which should then be sown immediately. Germination can still take 6 months or more[1]. Cuttings of firm, current season's growth[2].
