Growth—
Achyranthes aspera is widespread through the tropics and subtropics, and can be found at elevations up to 2,000 metres. It will only succeed in the milder areas of the temperate zone, where it is likely to be annual rather than perennial. In eastern Africa, it is found in areas where the mean annual rainfall is within the range 700 - 1,300mm[1]. Grows best in a fertile soil.
