Cydonia oblonga is fairly cold-hardy, tolerating temperatures down to about -15°c when dormant. However, it prefers growing in areas with hot summers and the fruit will often not ripen properly in areas with cool summers. Succeeds in most soils but prefers a light moist fertile soil and a sunny position.
